James J. Jeffries (1875-1953), a white boxer who 
came out of retirement to try to dethrone the first
 black heavyweight boxing champion, Jack Johnson. 
It also referred to any other white boxer initially 
recruited to fight Johnson. 
The Great White Hope, a 1970 film about Jack Johnson 
(renamed Jack Jefferson) 
certain white cricket players, notably Robin Smith
 (cricketer), Allan Lamb and Graeme Hick, who emigrated
 from southern Africa to attempt to qualify for the English team 
nickname of white rapper Eminem
