Louis: "If you read between the lines of Ahmadinejad's comments, you will figure
out that capitalism in his eyes is identified closely with Western
society and not a mode of production analyzed in V. 1 of Capital."

I'd say you're reading between the lines of your own book, Louis. I don't
pretend to know exactly what Ahmadinejad is thinking, and I certainly don't
claim he'll be taking Fidel's place as leader of the world anti-imperialist
movement any time soon, but given what is happening in the world these days
which certainly prompted Ahmadinejad's remarks, I'd say it hasn't the slightest
thing to do with "Western society" (e.g., "women enjoying Western-type
freedoms") and everything to do with the economic problems of capitalism as seen
in all the problems we're all familiar with.

And as an aside, I don't believe that interest charged by banks is the essence
of capitalism, either. I was under the impression it was the extraction of the
surplus labor of workers in the form of profit, and while I admit that SOME of
that comes in the form of interest collected by banks, I don't think most of it
does. So if that's the only salient feature of "Islamic economics," Islamic
economics would hardly be non-capitalist.
