A peaceful protest demonstration is here called "a blatant and
shameless provocation." That, of course, is standard Stalinist
terminology and practise, as seems to be still the norm for Cuba's one-
party press. What is new here, and terribly revealing, is that the so-
called "counterrevolutionaries punished with prison terms"
who supposedly, as Walter never tires of asserting, were charged with
taking money from a foreign government for political purposes (which,
if unregistered, would also be a "crime" in the oh-so-democratic USA),
are actually imprisoned for "activities against the Cuban people and
for their mercenary and annexation-oriented positions." Those
activities, however financed, were never charged as being other than
entirely peaceful; and "positions," however pejoratively one may
characterize them, are entirely exercises in political speech. Do the
Cuban rulers even begin to realize what a godsend this sort of
repression is for Bush, the Miami gusanos, and all the other
reactionaries who want to perpetuate the US economic warfare against
the Cuban people? It seems not. Cuban Stalinists can be as stupid as
all the rest of their breed.
