Cuba Rejects Campaign Against China 

Havana, April 7 (acn) The president of the Cuban Olympic Committee (COC)
Jose Ramon Fernandez, condemned the campaign aimed to undermine the
international confidence on China's capacity to organize the Olympic
Games. 

The Cuban Olympic Committee expressed its firm rejection of any attempts
to interfere in China's domestic affairs, while recognizing the efforts
made by the Olympic Committee and the Chinese government and people to
guarantee the success of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

In statements to Prensa Latina at the China World Hotel on Sunday,
Fernandez said the Asian nation, which he said holds such a "solid
sovereignty, glorious history and millenarian culture" will not be put
under pressured nor blackmailed. 

The COC and the Cuban government welcomed the appointment of China as
host of the 29th Olympic Games, said Fernandez adding that Cuba will
contribute to its success in any way it can. 

The Chinese authorities and people have spared no efforts and took on the
commitment with great responsibility. They have made important decisions
and put lots of resources to build high-quality facilities to ensure that
the games are held under optimum conditions. 

The COC's president rejected the actions led by certain NGOs and other
institutions, personalities and press media that have joined a campaign
against China and have tried to boycott the organization of the Games,
noting that the athletes will be the most affected.  

Jose Ramon Fernandez spoke to Prensa Latina moments before the beginning
of the 16th session of the General Assembly of the National Olympic
Games.
