you are either part of the movement as a way of engaging people in
discussion around issues ....
or you are a sectarian.

reply -

In general, this is great advice ... when it comes to a movement. We can
work with activists against the war, in defense of immigrant workers' rights,
whatever, and talk politics while doing worthwhile work. Even if the
organizations that we would be working in are led by reformists, we haven't crossed a
class line. But this is a bourgeois electoral campaign, not a movement that we
believe in and want to build. The only way to have worthwhile discussions
with the many open-minded people working for Obama ... is to work for Obama.
Would it be sectarian to refuse to go that far?

Mike -

is labeling Obama "a Cintonite with a Black face" the best way
to do this? In the context of the racist under (and over) tones of the
campaign against Obama, how would this sound to millions of people
desirous of change and expressing this through the Obama campaign?

I agree - I offered this formulation for this list only.

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is
violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." Arthur
Schopenhauer (1788-1860)
