[Marxism] The relentless and obsessive opposition to

"But this is a Marxism
list. Surely we must be clear that from the point of view of the ruling
class, a successful Obama campaign would serve greatly to refurbish the
USA brand in the world?

"The question is, to me, how to present this reality to Obama supporters."

Well, some of us "obsessives" have the wacky idea that actually disseminating
the facts might be a good place to start. Facts like:

* Obama's claim that opposition to the Vietnam war was an anti-military,
"love-in" (http://archives.econ.utah.edu/archives/marxism/2008w03/msg00088.htm)

* Obama's statement that what he'd look for in a Vice-President is someone with
"military experience," because he's "very confident about serving as
Commander-in-Chief in terms of my judgments in terms of what our strategic
interests are, and so that's the area that I'd be concerned about, but I think
having somebody who intimately understood some of the more tactical issues
surrounding military deployments [would be a good thing]." (also
http://archives.econ.utah.edu/archives/marxism/2008w03/msg00088.htm)

* Obama's support for U.S. military actions in Somalia
(http://archives.econ.utah.edu/archives/marxism/2008w12/msg00297.htm)

* Obama's proposal to increase the size of the military by 92,000
(http://archives.econ.utah.edu/archives/marxism/2008w07/msg00050.htm)

* Obama's repeated votes in favor of funding the war and occupation of Iraq

* Obama's desire to send more troops to Afghanistan

* Obama's support for economic warfare against Iran (and Cuba).

* Obama's condemnation of Rev. Wright for having a "a view that sees the
conflicts in the Middle East as rooted primarily in the actions of stalwart
allies like Israel instead of emanating from the perverse and hateful ideologies
of radical Islam."

and so on

Because if anyone imagines that some Obama "movement" (non-existent, but in any
case...) is going to somehow pressure Obama to "do the right thing" after he's
elected, a good place to start would be to educate that "movement" about what
the "right thing" is (and isn't) in the first place.

Barack Obama isn't just not a socialist, or even not a progressive. He's quite
unapologetically pro-imperialist, and if we can't educate people about what's
wrong with that, then we should hang up our political shingle.
