Bonnie Weinstein makes the point that, in her view,
the greens are not really, truly, anti-capitalist...
Ralph Nader after all winded up sort of supporting the
Democrats as the lesser-evil...
True, and last time around it was even worse than when
Nader was their candidate.
The Green Party in the United States is not a
revolutionary socialist electoral alternative. It is a
true swamp of activists who are a little bit to the
left of the Democrats. Some are wishy washy
anarchists...others are wishy washy feminist-ecologist
some are probably Christians who believe in home
schooling...some maybe are communists...
But so what.
It is the only electoral vehicle the left has to
challenge the Democrats and Republicans in the
elections in 2008.
It is the only vehicle that MIGHT become the focus of
anger against the war in the elections.
If Bonnie and her comrades would put their energy and
discipline into getting people to vote for it...they
would be building the antiwar movement in a real,
sensual, dirty, way...that Marx, Lenin and Trotsky
would be proud of if they were around to clap and
applaud.
Or, then on the other hand you can wait for the
industrial workers' mass militant trade unions to
organize a really really sensible working class
alternative with boots and hammers and everything
nice... and then give it critical support hose to
wear...
Come on Bonnie, get real.
All the best,
Anthony
