Hello:
Here are a few questions for people who read Joaquin's
posts advocating support for the Democratic Party.
Is Cynthia McKinney in the Democratic Party, or in the
Green Party?
Why is it such a bad idea to support a good,
progressive, radical, leader of the oppressed for
election - who just happens to be a candidate of the
Democratic Party - by accident?
I don't know the answer to the question about cynthia
McKinney, but would like to know the answer. I will
support her for election if she runs as a Green, but
not if she runs as a Democrat.
Why not? She will still be the same person no matter
what party she is in.
But that is not true. She will be supporting Hillary
Clinton, or BaraK Obama for president - and hence the
continued war in Iraq - if she is a Democratic Party
candidate.
If she is a Green Party candidate she will be publicly
rejecting the war.
In the 1960's Ron Dellums ran against the war in Viet
Nam, and supported the Democratic Party candidates for
election for President, Senate, and on down the ilne -
even though THEY supported and organized the war.
Dellums was not alone.
His wing of the Democratic Party was crucial to the
election of the prowar democrats.
If McKinney is in the Greens, support her. If she is a
Democrat, don't.
It's practical and tactical, and principled, too.
You don't have to understand anything about Russian or
Cuban history to get this point. You just have to be
against the war.
Period.
Anthony
