I posted the article after I read it on antiwar.com,
which is a libertarian/conservative anti-war site. I
don't know to what extent these things are serious
analysis vs. propaganda to make another war seem
inevitable. Here's more of the same from the UK
press:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article2369001.ece
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/09/02/wiran102.xml
At any rate, thanks for the analysis. I certainly
agree with you that the political risks of this
strategy are far greater than the neocons admit; they
seem to think that they can destroy most of Iran's
offensive capabiltiy (seems plausable), cripple the
economy (also seems plausable) and trigger a popular
uprising (seems absurd). Since the military forces
are in place, and Congress has given Bush a blank
check, I'm not sure I understand your point that any
decision he makes to launch a new war will be rejected
by the real decision makers of U.S. imperialism.
Could you elaborate on that a litte?
