 Munich: thousands against NATO security conference

Thousands of anti-militarists (3,000 according to the police, 8,000 according to the organisers) have today protested against the annual NATO security conference in Munich, South Germany. A demonstration went ahead despite police attempts to ban it. Some 3,700 police were in attendence.

The demonstration consisted of four blocs (internationalist, left-liberal, communist and anarchist). Police speak of 16 arrests at the moment, though the protest was peaceful.

At the time of writing it is reported that hundreds of protesters are still moving in small groups in the area were the NATO defence ministers have their dinner.
