liberation struggle. If he wins, the Black struggle is finished, done for,
dead, and white America reigns supreme over the defeated Blacks. The whites
who support Obama are the most fanatical racists, the ones who want to
finish off the Black struggle now with no waiting. Those who oppose Obama
on open or concealed racist grounds are less dangerous, since they at least
seem to assume that race struggle is natural and will go on forever -- a
position with which the sectarian nationalists at least seem to sympathize.
And who are the alternative to Obama who will have no space to protest if he
wins: Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. There seems to be no room for fresher
and, in my opinion, more revolutionary-minded elements like Cynthia McKinney
or the Reconstruction Party in Louisiana or various local struggles.
In this schema, Obama comes to represent the most dangerous form of social
fascism on the race question. In fact, his views are poison in my opinion,
but the political counter-line that claims to be derived from them is simply
screwball and worse than useless from the standpoint of advancing any
popular national, class, or feminist struggle. \
Black people are left out of account except as victims of the nefarious
plans of the corporations and various sections of the white population,
viewed as simply more or less fanatically racist or fanatically racist in
different ways, which utilize Obama for their evil plots against Black
people.
Of course, there is implicit in all this the view that there is no basis for
a debate among fighters over how to oppose Obama in a way that will be
fruitful for the Black struggle and other social struggles. No, there is
only one way to oppose this capitalist candidate. No patient explanation of
class and national questions. Only frenzied agitation, including claims that
his victory will be the definitive white victory over Black America. Give
me a break, PLEASE!
