  why can't the those journalists not their facts right? Well, even OPEC
has them wrong in their information kit on the Riadh conference. OPEC
has currently 12 members.

  14 countries had joined OPEC up to now:

---- quote -----------
[OPEC was] created at the Baghdad Conference on September 10û14, 1960,
by Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

The five Founding Members were later joined by nine other Members: Qatar
(1961); Indonesia (1962); Socialist Peoples Libyan Arab Jamahiriya
(1962); United Arab Emirates (1967); Algeria (1969); Nigeria (1971);
Ecuador (1973-1992); Gabon (1975-1994) and Angola (2007).

--------- unquote ---

  Five plus nine makes fourteen, but Ecuador suspended its membership
with effect from 31 december 1992, and Gabon ended its membership with
effect from 1st january 1995. That makes 12 member countries. The press
pack on this year's conference got it also wrong, they listed only 11,
forgetting about Angola's accession on Janary 1st 2007. But there is a
page on Angola in it, unfortunately with a not really well done photo of
Desiderio Costa, the long time minister resp. vice-minister responsible
for Angola's oil industry.
