Walter writes: "Let's face it, a group which is dogmatically FOR Cuba is one
hell of a lot better than a group which is dogmatically AGAINST Cuba, at
least as far as Cuba is concerned. "
This is simply NOT TRUE. What is best for CUBA is a sharpening of the class
struggle in the United States, an advance of the social and protest
movements and their growing political independence. This means actively
building the antiwar movement, the immigrant rights movement, the Green
Party and so on.
The ISO --despite weaknesses, one-sidedness and errors-- tries to do that
and makes a positive contribution in that regard.
The SWP, on the other hand, isn't just useless, it is worse than useless,
for they recruit people from the movements for social change and take them
OUT of those movements. To the extent their sect-building contributes to
ANYTHING, it contributes to the insane sectarian division of the U.S. Left,
which isn't a violation just of everything taught in the Communist
Manifesto, but even of the slogan on the cover, as well as a rejection of
the political approach the Cuban Revolution has long advocated and
practiced.
People will QUALITATIVELY learn more about the true meaning and importance
of the Cuban Revolution from engagement in their own struggles than simply
from the consumerist/intellectualist consumption of Pathfinder books.
