I am not so expert in the ways of espying Semites that I could say
offhand someone with the name "Weinstein" was definitely Jewish (nor
do I plan to develop such capacities). But it's definitely a German
name, and it would be a pretty piece of *Frechheit* to match a
American Jew of German extraction with the "appropriate" monarchy;
even "playfully" exploring the Middle European brooding (or French
hotheadedness -- or African primitivism, Asian inscrutability?) of
a Gentile with a questionable surname is historically a bosses' game
that adds little to substantive debate. "Bourbon" would indeed have
made the same point better.

As for the issue, I said McKinney was radioactive and I meant it:
her behavior has been too polarizing for any radical policy
arguments to get a halfway-fair hearing in the press. I followed her
career as a member of the House with interest and sympathy, but effort
expended on a campaign for higher office will be wasted, even (perhaps
especially) from a "long perspective" of trying to energize and unify
left-wing constituencies separately from the DP.
