I hope this doesn't mean that he will be speaking for 2 1/2 hours. When 
I attended a Rethinking Marxism conference in 1996, Balibar spoke at a 
plenary. He was supposed to speak for 45 minutes and then the floor was 
open for Q&A. After 60 minutes, the audience became restless. When he 
was 90 minutes of his lecture, mostly Asian and female graduate students 
got up and started shouting at him for being oppressive. Since the 
plenary was on "Race and Class," the opposition from the ranks seemed 
very much to the point.
