hi marxist scholars, i am appealing to this list in hopes that someone can please enlighten me about the difference between the critiques of "white supremacy" and "white privilege". i have been asking around for a while to no avail.

among the younger radical crowd, i commonly see that radical POC groupings almost always refer to "white supremacy", while white radicals almost always refer to "white privilege."

while i am familiar with the "white privilege" critique as developed by T. Allen and N. Ignatiev, I don't understand the distinction from "white supremacy" - which seems to be referring to a substantially different perspective, possibly a particular Third World Marxist notion with a long shelf life - ??

Also - bonus points for anyone who can also explain to the origin of the "white skin privilege" idea, and how this is different from "white privilege".

thanks

spencer
