The barbarization of the Imperial army is now universally considered
to be one of the most important signs of decay in Ancient Rome.
This is not the same situation, however, because capitalism does not
include _peoples as such_ like older formations did but _people as
individuals_, and thus the whole set of social linkages, beliefs,
etc., that the Roman soldiers brought with themselves does not _turn
the Army a Barbarian Army_.
However, isn't it striking that even these children of despair prefer
to have themselves shot and face Justice rather than offering their
life for the country that provided them with a haven on Earth...
