[Marxism] "Talk to me" - a great new movie

Yesterday I saw a wonderful new movie starring Don Cheadle in a
biopic based on a real person, a Black man who'd been a convict
and used his gift of gab to talk himself into a job as a drive-
time disc jockey in Washington, DC at about the time of Martin
Luther King, Jr's assassination. Though it had a few of what
I thought were cinematic flaws, it recreated the period and
the mood and feeling of the time quite well. Those of us who
were active then will, I'm sure, find the film powerful and
those who weren't should go get the emotional adrenaline lift
which the movie provides. It has a terrific contemporary punch
as well, as we observe the voice and face of Lyndon Johnson as
he argues against leaving Vietnam, sounding almost exactly like
George W. Bush defending the war and occupation of Iraq today.

The film opens on a blunt, almost cartoonish level, but then it
changes tone and becomes surprisingly nuanced. It's rare indeed
to see, and to be able to understand why the push for Black
Power and Black pride was so important for people of African
descent in the United States. Don't miss this movie.

Don Cheadle has to be one of the best actors working today.
He was made famous as the psychopathic killer in the film
DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS.
