Steroids can also flick switches in the user's mind, altering
personalities and inciting overly aggressive behavior, commonly called
"'roid rage." Diane Williams says she was sexually voracious during her
steroid cycles; professor Todd says that steroids can act as a
triggering mechanism for violent behavior. Last year, a Sports
Illustrated article reported on the unusual number of bodybuilders
behind bars for homicide: Bertil Fox, a former Mr. Universe, is
incarcerated for the murders of his girlfriend and his girlfriend's
mother. California bodybuilder John Riccardi awaits execution for a
double homicide. Another California muscleman, Gordon Kimbrough, is
serving 27 years to life for the murder of his fiancée. A female
strength prodigy, Sally McNeil, is serving a life sentence for the
murder of her bodybuilder husband. The list continues; while Todd
cautions against classifying all bodybuilders as pathologically prone,
no other sport comes close to paralleling bodybuilding's criminal record.

JOHN ROCKER has opinions, and there's no way to sugarcoat them. They
are politically incorrect, to say the least, and he likes to express them.
# On ever playing for a New York team: "I would retire first. It's the
most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the [Number] 7
train to the ballpark, looking like you're [riding through] Beirut next
to some kid with purple hair next to some queer with AIDS right next to
some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time right next to
some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing."
# On New York City itself: "The biggest thing I don't like about New
York are the foreigners. I'm not a very big fan of foreigners. You can
walk an entire block in Times Square and not hear anybody speaking
English. Asians and Koreans and Vietnamese and Indians and Russians and
Spanish people and everything up there. How the hell did they get in
this country?"

HE'S BATTY, SAYS PIAZZA CHARGES CLEMENS LOOKED 'UNSTABLE'
Mike Piazza demanded a league investigation yesterday into the Roger
Clemens bat-throwing incident - calling the pitcher's toss "idiotic" and
saying Clemens looked "unstable" during the Game 2 fracas.
"I do believe, now that I have had time to think about it, his actions
should be looked at by . . . whoever is in charge of conduct," the Mets'
All-Star catcher said yesterday at Shea Stadium.
Sandy Alderson, executive vice president of Major League Baseball
operations, said a probe into Clemens' actions was underway and that the
league hopes resolve the matter as soon as today. Alderson acknowledged
that the inquiry could lead to a fine or suspension for Clemens.

(CNN) -- A lawyer for Roger Clemens strongly denies the seven-time Cy
Young Award winner used steroids to pump up his body and his pitching
statistics.
Roger Clemens has won seven Cy Young Awards pitching for several teams,
including the New York Yankees.
Clemens, considered a shoo-in for the Baseball Hall of Fame someday, was
prominently featured in the report on performance-enhancing drugs that
former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell released Thursday.
"Roger Clemens adamantly, vehemently, and whatever other adjectives can
be used, denies that he has ever used steroids or ... improper
substances," Clemens' attorney, Rusty Hardin, said Thursday.
