A really quick update on the London World Against War conference, which
took place this weekend. On Saturday, Dec.1 there was a day long series
of panels, with over 1200 delegates registering, and more than 30
countries represented. Of that, though, the majority were from the UK.
On Sunday, Dec. 2, a smaller afternoon session was held especially for
international delegates to help coordinate upcoming antiwar actions. A
callout for March 2008 mobilizations should be out very shortly. I'll
have a longer written report in the next day or two, but I wanted to
draw people's attention to the conference's excellent use of video on
the web technology. Most of the videos of Saturday speeches are already
available on the Stop the War UK site and youtube. You'll find them
here: http://www.stopwar.org.uk/ Of the many speeches I'd recommend
watching, I'd like to single out Ibrahim Mousawi. He's an editor for
Hezbollah news and TV. His attendance was denounced by the Conservative
leader David Cameron and this received major media play. In contrast,
not a single 'mainstream' media outlet was in attendance on Saturday,
despite the presence of foreign and UK MPs, etc at this significant
international conference. The UK press in particular have no interest in
reporting what Mousawi actually said, in a speech that was among the
best received of the day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OM4UMpNecE
More to come on this, but for now it looks like the callout will be set
for March 15, 2008 for actions globally to stop the war on iran, and to
bring troops home from iraq/afghanistan. Derrick
