Comrades,
Now that even the president is babbling about Irag
being Vietnam, maybe its time I took one of those long
bus rides to march through the empty streets of DC and
demand an end this miserable war. My problem is I am
confronted by more options then my cable company phone
tree. Help me, please, make some sense of this. As I
understand the upcoming schedule of demonstrations and
organizations:

Sept. 15 - ANSWER (i.e. Party for Socialism and
Liberation. They don't like the war, the Democratic
Party, and they particularly don't like the Workers
World Party which is why they walked out and took
ANSWER with them.)

Sept. 29 - Troops Out Now (i.e. what's left of the
Workers World Party)

Oct 27 - United for Peace and Justice (10 regional
demonstrations by everybody else).

Is the politically responsible thing to go to all of
them or just stay home and watch the whole thing on
CSPANN? Does any of this national demonstation
competiton seem ludicrous to anybody else?
ANSWER is calling for a united demonstration of "one
million" on either of two dates in the future which
begs the question of why there isn't a coordinated
response now.
Early in this war the NY times quoted a Marine on
patrol in southern Iraq as he surveyed the palm trees
and lush vegetaion on a river bank and then remarked,
"you know, this place looks like Vietnam."
It's starting to smell like the Vietnam era too and
part of the odor is a contentionous, sect-driven left
which seems to do a far better job of organizing low
cost bus trips trip than forging some kind of unity in
face of this nightmare. If everyone acknowledges a
united front is a good thing then where the hell is
it? Alas, just what is to be done anyway?
