Venezuelan Gov't Grants Housing Credits

Caracas, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
granted on Wednesday more than 8.1 million dollars in housing credits
and subsidies for middle-class families.

Chavez said the State must protect the family and is responsible for
guaranteeing houses, one of the toughest problems affecting not only
Venezuela but humankind.

The State, he commented, can never renounce the duty to contribute to
the healthy, safe and stable development of the family, thus the
importance of this program of financial assistance, called Middle
House and Middle Alliance, sponsored by the Housing and Habitat
Ministry.

Chavez added that the housing credits and subsidies show the
government's commitment to improving the living conditions of
Venezuelans, in this case in conjunction with private companies
interested in contributing to the project.

The head of State pointed out that programs like this one refute
opinions that the government only cares about eliminating the private
enterprise.

He pointed out that they are groundless attacks, adding that "the
goal of this program is to facilitate middle-class families the
access to mortgage loans under favorable conditions."
