You have to remember that some of this is attributable to the
whitewashing of American history that CP intellectuals of the 1940s
were involved with as part of the Popular Front turn. When Browder
announced that Communism was 20th century Americanism, they had to
establish a kind of "revolutionary continuity" with a bunch of rather
nasty people. The CP had something called the Jefferson School in
NYC. I myself would as soon name something the Hitler school or the
Mussolini school.
"If we are to wage a campaign against these Indians the end proposed
should be their extermination, or their removal beyond the lakes of
the Illinois River. The same world would scarcely do for them and us."
--Written by Thomas Jefferson when he was governor of Virginia (1780)
"We have cut off all possibility of intercourse and of mutual aid,
and may pursue at our leisure whatever plan we find necessary to
secure ourselves against the future effects of their savage and
ruthless warfare. The confirmed brutalization, if not the
extermination of this race in our America, is therefore to form an
additional chapter in the English history of the same colored man in
Asia, and of the brethren of their own color in Ireland, and wherever
else Anglo-mercantile cupidity can find a two-penny interest in
deluging the earth with human blood."
--Thomas Jefferson to Alexander von Humboldt, 1813. ME 14:21
