What incredible historical ignorance -- ignorance worthy of a
high-school student.
1. McCarthy was a Senator, not a Congressman, so he could not have been
the chairman of _any_ House Committee.
2. HUAC did not itself "blacklist" anyone. The entertainment companies
(movies, tv) created unoffical blacklists of people who had failed to
cooperate with HUAC.
3. HUAC over the decades did _far_ more damage than McCarthy ever did.
In fact his opportunistic histrionics helped end the Red Hunt -- by 1955
the repression was less than it had been in 1947 before McCarthy became
important.
Finally, it is important for leftists (and particularly for marxists) to
get the story of the Great Red Hunt straight, because the superficial
memories of it serve mainly to benefit the DP, while in fact it was DP
politicians who launched the Red Hunt to begin with.
