In regards to Castro admitting he 'misplayed his hand during the Cuban
Missile Crisis'

...No big news...In Castro's auto-biography ('My Life', transcribed and
interviewed by Ignacio Ramonet) he more or less admits that his youthful
response at the time (i.e. his hard-line against the Soviets for having
compromised and taken out their missiles ..so as to avoid nuclear
war....though Khruschev did get a private, behind the scenes agreement with
Kennedy for the removal of US nukes in Turkey) is not something he would
have supported in his later, more mature years. What's the big deal?

CB: Not only that, Khruschev , evidently, got a deal that the US would
not invade Cuba, which seems to be holding to this day even after
there is no Soviet Union. In 1964, the US did invade the Dominican
Republic. Khruschev should be given a lot of credit for preserving
the Cuban revolution. Actually, Castro's excess militancy then helped
Khruschev's bargaining position: Castro bad cop/Khruschev good cop.
