[A-List] Stephen Zunes on Iran - Iran's Do-It-YourselfRevolution

We can look at some facts that are known: the US has tried for decades to
destabilize and overthrow the regime in Iran. Bush and Obama have both
approved covert action to do so. The US has a fairly successful history and
track record of rigging elections, manipulating media, etc., so that in the
end their favored people wind up running the show.

There have been dozens of books written by scholars and former CIA officials
on the latter, the corporate media has duly reported the former. This isn't
the stuff of conspiracies, rather it is a simple observation of what
imperialists do.

Do people who act in support of US imperialism necessarily know they are
paid stooges of imperialism? I don't know. The CIA organized and paid off
the numerous unions in Chile to destabilize Allende's regime and prepare the
ground for Pinochet. Whether it was the workers or their leaders taking the
CIA money is immaterial as the outcome was the same. Historically there has
never been a shortage of class and other traitors (i.e., blacks fought for
the confederacy and look at the colonial armies). the best stooges are the
ones who think they are acting independently. Think of the Italians who
voted the way the CIA rigged the 1948 election for them to vote.

Seriously, a lot of people in a lot of countries make big mistakes,
without anyone paying to make them. It's really simple.
