The darling 'union' of the 'left', the SEIU, needs the
prison-industrial complex too!

"Along with the correctional officers, representatives of three unions
representing non-sworn prison employees also hammered the corrections
department over vacancies within their job categories.

"Our members don't see the department taking any progressive steps to
solve these problems," said Marc Bautista, a vice president of Service
Employees International Union Local 1000, which represents about
14,000 prison workers."

"Joyce Hayhoe, the chief lobbyist for the California Department of
Corrections and Rehabilitation, said an aggressive recruiting program
that will include outsourcing some of its background investigations
will help fill the 3,200 vacancies in a rank-and-file force slotted
for 31,000 jobs."

I wonder if their hiring practices are like the U.S. Customs Service,
Passport Division?:

PUBLIC DIPLOMACY PRESS AND BLOG REVIEW, JULY 26-30

"Thank you for your interest in volunteering to serve on the passport
task force. A review of the documents you submitted show that you do
not have consular or passport experience. At the moment, we are
concentrating on people with previous consular or passport
adjudicating experience. Unfortunately, we are unable to make use of
your skills, but appreciate your interest in the program and taking
the time to contact us."

offered to assist in handling passport applications at the Department,
estimated to have a processing backlog of nearly 2.9 million.
