What is important is to have a clear vision of when does criticism
originate in imperialist attack and when it does not. One of the
tragedies of 20th century revolutions (the Chinese one included) is
that they have been forced to recoil around themselves by a most
hostile and criminal enemy --the imperialist bourgeoisie.

One of the goals of this bourgeoisie has been to force these
revolutions into repression of their own peoples in a generalized
way, so that yes, more times than not we have been defeated and have
muzzled out many voices which, coming from our own side, pointed out
to a different way in the struggle (may I say that Trotksy's was one
of the greatest of these voices?).

We have paid a heavy toll for all this, and I am afraid we shall keep
paying a heavy toll in the future. The sooner we stop doing so, the
better. But this is nothing either Patrick, nor Juriaan, nor myself
nor in a very large extent Henry himself can solve.

Our duty is to be always aware of the basic issue at stake; that
imperialism is a global system, that it does not accept challenges,
that it will attack with any weapons available any country attempting
to break the perverted link with the Triad, that those countries
which more or less manage to begin to do so are invariably poor
countries (Venezuela an exception in a sense) with very few defensive
weapons at hand, and that if we don't keep all these basic points in
mind when we analyze the "repressive" character of a regime, we are
unfair to it.
