We have a rising sprial of debt and a falling spiral of growth. The
debt has been used to finance conspicuous consumption supported by
exploitation rather the general welfare.
Roman expansion halted beacuse the technology of transportation limited
further expansion. This phenomenon is even more critical today because
technology has outgrown the earth, leaving very few expansion
possibilities. The only new world to explore and colonize is space.
